After the relative isolation of Stuarts Point it was a shock to the system when we entered the hustle and bustle of Port Macquarie - an hour or so drive down the coast. We stayed at the Melaleuca Van Park on the edge of town, conveniently located to Tomoko's new favourite supermarket. In fact, it is so close that the neon sign illuminates the park at night.
This was a short, 3 day visit to stock up on groceries (tick) and other items that we reckon we will need for the months ahead. Shaka, at the age of 14 got his first ever jacket (modelling at a caravan park near you soon).
There are plenty of beachbreaks around Port but this accounts for little when theres no lumpy things in the water to make them work, which sums up the surfing conditions during our stay. I did however, stumble upon a lighthouse on my search for waves, offering sweeping views south, towards Bonny Hills.
The last thing we expected to see in town was wildlife and were pleasantly surprised to learn that each afternoon the park is visited by a 'nest' of rabbits (had to google the collective noun for that one). They are so cute...even Shaka thought so.
With the approaching school holidays looming we need to escape the coastal hordes and where else would a couple of desperados go other than west. Until then.. Adios Amigos.
