From Kangaroo Valley Tomoko, Shaka & I took the winding road down to the seaside town of Kiama. There's only one word that adequately describes Kiama - pretty, pretty, pretty. I know thats three words but its just so god damn pretty. The grass is lush & green, the water a clear deep blue.
There are 4 ocean baths in Kiama and I had a dip in two of them, either side of Kiama Harbour. There is one next to the famous blowhole and it's pretty busy. It was rather cold when I first jumped in, certainly by Ballina standards and the odd wave knocks you around a bit if your in the wrong spot and haven't got one eye on the ocean. Tomoko came along as well but her swimming endeavours went as far as dipping the little toe of her right foot in.
Pre christmas seems to be a peak time for markets in Kiama. We went to the producers market along the harbour. Among the bounty, Tomoko found some macaroons particularly to her liking, polishing off the packet that night. The following evening we visited the 'Made in Kiama' markets where Tomoko again discovered the now famed macaroon vendor, consuming the next packet with equal enthusiasm.
During our stay we explored some - venturing to Port Kembla (checked out the steel works), Shellharbour (a spot of shopping & the cinema) & Gerrigong (failed beach fishing trip). We stayed here a week and could easily have stayed for another as there's lots more to see & do. However, with the peak holiday season again looming we are forced to head inland to escape the holiday hordes.
Until next time...adios amigos.
